Crochet Bunny – written instructions

Image

This is a knock-off of the cutest design I have seen for a bunny. The original is from Esperanza Rosas ….. @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMDahX4r_rk Name: Conejo amigurumi (Parte 1: tejiendo el cuerpo y la cabeza).

Unfortunately it is done in Castillo and I don’t speak it. Nor does she speak English. So I was sort of on my own in interpreting what she was showing on her tutorial. She uses thin yarn and a small steel hook, I used worsted weight yarn and an F hook.   I ended up with a different bunny, but one I like!

So here are the written instructions for my version:
BUNNY: aprox 8″ long or 5″ high sitting up. This is done with an ‘F’ hook and worsted weight yarn.
I started all pieces with a magic circle, instead of a chain. So mentally ‘write in’ magic circle in front of each one.

For decrease, I used the ‘invisible’ method… put the hook through just the front loops of the 2 stitches, then draw your loop through.

#) = row,       (#) = of pieces in each row.      dec = decrease (2 sc together)  inc = 2 stitches in same stitch

HEAD: 1) – 6 sc

2) – 2 sc in each around (12)

3) – sc 1st st, 2 sc in next … repeat around (18)

4) – sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next one… repeat around (24)

5) – sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in next one… repeat around (30)

6) – sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next one…. repeat around. (36)

7-11) Work even=work one sc in each sc around (36)

12) – sc in next 4 st, make one dec… repeat around (30)

13) – Sc in next 3 st, make one dec… repeat around (24)

14) – Sc in next 2 st, make one dec… repeat around (18)

15) – Sc in one st, make one dec… repeat around (12) [Stuff Head at this point, or top off if you already started stuffing.]

16) Make 6 dec around. (6)
Sew last gap shut and tie off. Bury and cut thread.

Note: Every other piece will keep a long tail at the end to sew pieces together.

BODY: –
Row 1-5 same as for head.

6,7,8, 9) – Work even (30)

10) – sc in 3 st, make one dec… repeat around (24)

11) – Work even (24)

12) – sc in next 6 st, make one dec…. repeat twice (21)

13) – sc in next 5 st, make one dec… repeat twice (18)

14) – sc in next 4 st, make one dec… repeat twice (15)

15) – sc in next 3 st, make one dec… repeat twice (12)

16) – dec 6 times (6). Stitch hole closed. With long tail, sew to head. The head sits rather low onto the body, so use the second (12st) ring on each to sew together. You can use the 6st rings if you want to add a scarf or collar of some kind.

ARMS:

Row 1-3 same as for head and body. (18)

4 & 5) – Work even.

6) – sc in next 4 st, make one dec… repeat twice (15)

7) – Work even (15)

8) – sc in next 3 st, make one dec… repeat twice (12) [stuff arm]

9) – sc in next 2 st, make one dec… repeat twice (9)

10) – sc, dec next st, repeat twice. (6) Tie off Make your second and use long tails to sew onto body. See video for location.

LEGS: Note: If you have been working in a spiral for the other pieces, don’t do that for the legs until you get past the feet. Esperanza Rosas used 3 alternate colors for the feet and ears I just used one. So ‘Alt’, means alternate color/s.
1) – W/Alt, chain 5. 4sc down chain, 2 sc on end, 4 sc up other side, 2 sc on beginning. (12)

2) – W/Alt, 5 sc down each side and 2 sc in each end. (14)

3) – W/Alt, 5 sc each side, and 4 on each end. (18)

4 & 5) (continue in body color) Work even

6) – work 4 dec in around evenly for round foot, or work 5 sc, 4 dec, 5 sc. to shape toe of foot. (14)

7) – Dec once on each side (12)

8) – Dec once in back and once in front (10)

9,10 & 11) – Work even [Stuff leg]

12) – dec once on each side. (8) . Make a second one and use long tail to sew to body.  Flatten the opening and sew across the flat to connect.

TAIL: 1) – 6 sc

2) – sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next… repeat twice (9)

3) – sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next… repeat twice (12)

4) sc in next 2 st, make one dec… repeat twice (9)

5) sc, make one dec, repeat twice (6). Don’t close. Sew on full circle in spot that will make bunny sit up unassisted.

EARS: These start with body color, numbers between // means use alternate color. All rows start in mid back, with color change in front. No stuffing. For best color change, pull next color through last 2 loops.
1) – 8 sc

2) – 2 sc each st around (16)

3) – sc next 3 st, 2 sc in next… repeat 3 times (20)

4) – sc in 4 st, 2 sc in next, sc in next 4 st (10) /2sc/, sc in next 4st, 2 sc in next, sc in next 4 st. (22)

5) – sc next 3 st, dec, sc next 5 st (9)/2 sc in each of next 2 st/sc next 5 st, dec, sc in next 3 (22) (9)/(4)/(9)

6) – sc next 2 st, dec, sc next 5 st (8)/1 sc, 2 sc in next, sc in next 2 sts (5)/sc next 5 st, dec, sc in next 2 (21) (8)/(5)/(8)

7) – Work even on body color, 2 sc in second alt st. (8)/(6)/(8)

8) – Dec once each side in body color, work even alt. (7)/(6)/(7)

9) – Work even each color (7)/(6)/(7)

10) – Work even on body color, Dec one in alt (7)/(5)/(7)

11) – dec one each side in body color, work even in alt. (6)/(5)/(6)

12 & 13) – work even each color (6)/(5)/(6)

14) – Work even on body color, dec in alt. (6)/(4)/(6)

15) – dec once each side in body color, work even in alt (5)/(4)/(5)

16) – Work even each color (5)/(4)/(5)

17) – Even body color, dec once in alt (5)/(3)/(5)

18) – Work even both colors

19) – Dec once each side in body AND once in alt (4)/(2)/(4) Tie off alt color.

20) – dec twice evenly. (8)
Whip stitch around outer loop of last row. Sew onto head using these stitches. It makes a much thinner area for connecting. See video for location.
Look at how she made the face. I think it really ‘makes’ the bunny… that and his adorable ears.

Well that is it. I hope this helps you to make a darling bunny of your own!
